Andy Munro watches Blues beat Peterborough United to win promotion to the Championship.
This could have been squeaky bum time but generally Blues cruised through the game and back into the Championship with far more shots and possession than their opponents.
In fairness to Peterborough, they never gave up and Blues were thankful to Ryan Allsop, who pulled off an excellent save as the game entered its closing stages. Also, a mention must be made of the Posh’s outstanding Poku, who surely must be a target next season given our general lack of blistering pace.
Many pundits had Taylor Gardner-Hickman as our man of the match. That is something I wouldn’t argue with given that he had a hand in our first goal and scored the second.
Incidentally, the first goal was scored with a superb header from the dimunitive Alfie May and hopefully this will continue to improve his growing confidence.
Tomoli Iwata again kept all the footballing plates spinning in midfield and at the back it seemed that the classy Krystian Bielik had never been away. As usual, Christoph Klarer was immense and Alfons Sampsted proved he is definitely worth a second shot next season. Unfortunately, the same probably can’t be said for Willum Willumsson, who still hasn’t recovered his early season mojo.
Having said all that, this has been, and is, a brilliant season and if we can go up as champions (and even cup winners) it will be long remembered and a great launch pad for next season. And, of course yet again the away following of Bluenoses did the club proud, rightly enjoying a joint celebration with all the players and backroom staff.
