Andy Munro sees Blues win their top of the table clash with Wycombe Wanderers.
This was never going to be an easy gig and Wycombe, backed by a decent crowd of their own supporters, were stubborn opposition.
However, Blues dominated the first half and were unlucky not to go in two or three to the good but without Jay Stansfield and Lyndon Dykes they had to rely on an Alfie May lacking in confidence and Willum Willumsson still struggling with his form. Luckily step forward the unassuming but very effective Taylor Gardner-Hickman who capped a fine performance with a cool finish after Blues proves doubters that they can go long, with a razor sharp kick from Ryan Allsop.
The midfield were dominant; Paik Seung-ho returned to his best form and the consistent Tomoki Iwata controlled things and was probably unlucky not to score himself
In fairness, despite being down to ten men Wycombe never gave up and had a couple of chances but Blues generally played their way out of any trouble, although injuries to Allsop and Ethan Laird are a bit concerning, given our growing injury list.
On the latter, he was a packet of trouble going forward but whilst the opposition full-back probably deserved to be sent off for scything him down, the triple salchow and general rolling around (followed by a miracle recovery) isn’t something I could condone even as a Blues fan.
Either way, a solid win against our nearest rivals is not to be sniffed at and with the return of influential players such as Jay Stansfield and Keshi Anderson apparently imminent, the future continues to look very bright.
