Andy Munro celebrates as Blues beat Bradford City to reach the EFL Trophy final.
While it might not be a Carling Cup Final, the EFL trophy showpiece should still be a great day out, especially if it’s against our American rivals Wrexham. Who knows; such an event might even have Donald Trump popping along if he’s visiting the UK. But let’s hope not!
In fairness to Bradford City, most of the match was a fairly tight affair, although as is usual Blues had the vast majority of play. Apart from a couple of aberrations, the defence was solid with Ben Davies particularly impressive, although when Ethan Laird came on, it added a sprinkling of stardust. Further up the field, while Paik Seung-ho looked a bit jaded, the midfield machine that is Tomoki Iwata was relentless.
In front of them, Kieran Dowell was his usual classy self, probing and crafting whilst Jay Stansfield ruthlessly finished off a move to put Blues into the lead. Unfortunately, the word ‘ruthlessly’ could also be applied to the laughably unpunished Bradford tackle that literally put our star striker in hospital.
In fairness Alfie May and Lyndon Dykes stepped up to the plate, with the former heading home to earn Blues their trip to Wembley. I’ve never been a fan of the big Scot but maybe it’s time for me to change my mind.
