Andy Munro watches Blues beat Charlton Athletic.
This was never going to be a walk in the park but Blues came through their latest test, against similarly in-form Charlton, fairly comfortably.
Blues, playing arguably their strongest side, were the better team by some margin during a tight first half. As usual they had the majority share of the play and had several decent chances before Jay Stansfield (who else?) capped his non-stop running with a quick break when he dispossessed a Charlton defender to run through and hammer the ball emphatically into the roof of the net.
Kieran Dowell behind him and Paik Seung-ho pulled the strings along with the continually impressive Tomoki Iwata. In fact Dowell was unlucky not to score and it is worth mentioning a stellar performance from Keshi Anderson, although that has now become almost commonplace.
At the back Ethan Laird continued to be a thorn in the opposition side as he ran the Charlton defence ragged whilst Christoph Klarer and Ben Davies kept the back door shut with considerable ease. Goalkeeper Ryan Allsop should perhaps be prosecuted for fraud, masquerading as a keeper when he virtually had nothing to do apart from stroll around his area although, more seriously, his long-range kicking was quite superb in finding a Blues player.
Hopefully a Bradford banana skin doesn’t await against a team who have already dispatched two League One clubs. All to be played in front of a sell out crowd!
And a final word about the Charlton manager, who needs to learn about accepting defeat gracefully but that is becoming unfortunately commonplace from opposition managers after they leave St Andrews pointless.
