Blues hand out a Wiggin

Andy Munro watches Blues win at Wigan.

This was a match which seemed to look ominous in the first 15 minutes, with Blues surprisingly under the cosh from a run of the mill lower mid-table outfit. Yet once Alfie May netted, Blues grew rapidly in stature. Mind you, it could have been different if the oft unsung Ryan Allsop hadn’t pulled off a magnificent save when the score was nil-nil. Of all Blues’ signings, he must be in the top three.

Alfie then got a second and this will do his confidence the world of good. Let’s hope that this wasn’t just because Jay Stansfield was missing, as both ought to be vital to our side. At the back, Christoph Klarer and Ben Davies were immense although for once, the oft-maligned Ethan Laird should take centre stage when he nailed the argument of him just flattering to deceive and lacking a decent finishing touch. In fact he had a hand in all three goals and one hopes that his final ball in this match becomes the rule and is not just the exception.

In midfield, Luke Harris fitted in seamlessly with an energetic display whilst Willum Willumsson netted, which will hopefully restore his confidence, as he can be a vital player for the Blues, knitting things together. Of course, Paik Seung-ho and Tomoki Iwata hardly deserve a special mention only because their level of skill and influence is almost taken as read.

Either way, it’s good to be back at the top of the table after such a pile-up of games.
