Stockport get the Blues

Andy Munro watches Blues beat Stockport County.

This was not the smoothest performance and workmanlike would be a better description. However, Blues eventually wore down a competent Stockport County outfit who had been on an impressive winning streak. including an excellent win against Wrexham.

Blues, as is often the case, started slowly and were almost made to pay when Stockport hit the post before Alfie May opened Blues account with an unerring finish following good work from the unsung Keshi Anderson. The same players were involved shortly afterwards when Alfie cooly slotted home from close in. In fairness, Stockport could have pulled one back but were foiled by a Banks-like double save from Ryan Allsop. The second half was disappointingly scrappy but Blues held firm and could have even increased their lead when Jay Stansfielld’s spectacular overhead kick was foiled by the opposition keeper.

Near the end Blues made a few sensible subs, including Lyndon Dykes who was a perpetual nuisance to the Stockport defence. In terms of good performances, Christoph Klarer and Ben Davies were imperious at the back whilst the powerful Tomoki Iwata was. outstanding in midfield.

Finally, the other outstanding performance came from the opposition’s Villa loanee Louie Barry, who went down like a sack of spuds only to make a miracle recovery of biblical proportions soon after.
