Andy Munro watches Blues win at Barnsley.
This was all about the second half, because in the first period Blues put in a laboured performance although, let’s face it, a windy and wet visit to Eeh Bah Gum country is a trip not to be savoured. However, in fairness, the Tykes probably should have gone in at halftime in the lead but failed to register much in the way of meaningful shots on target.
Blues looked a lot better in the second half, with the Juke brought on for a surprisingly ineffective Alfie May, yet it was Barnsley who opened the scoring. However, this seemed to galvanise the Blues as Jay Stansfield scored a wonder goal from long range and then the same player scored from close in following a corner.
The Blues defence coped well generally but further forward, the team coughed and spluttered for much of the game and certainly missed the quiet authority of Keshi Anderson as well as the energy and physical presence of Willum Willumsson.
Yet, overall this was a good result to keep the latest run going but certainly not the smoothest. It was perhaps another timely reminder to Blues fans that League One is no walk in the park.
