Inclusive multi-sport festival for Nechells

Access Sport and Sport Birmingham to host free event.

The national sport inclusion charity, Access Sport, has partnered with Sport Birmingham to run a free inclusive Multi-Sport Festival on Friday 30th August.

This will be Access Sport’s first inclusive multi-sport festival in the area, bringing together local disabled and disadvantaged young people to try a range of inclusive pan-disability sport.

Everyone is welcome, whether you have a learning disability or a physical disability, all activities will be designed to cater for all and ensure everyone has a day to remember.

The event will feature judo, hockey, wheelchair basketball, badminton, climbing, boccia, cycling and many more fun activities. There will also be stalls representing: Sport Birmingham, Midland Mencap, Street Games, Sense and Birmingham Children Trust.

The festival offers an opportunity for Birmingham’s community sport space to showcase disability-inclusive sport and physical activities on offer in the area, expanding the opportunities for disabled young people to get active.

Charlotte Barnard, Senior Community Coordinator at Access Sport, says: “I am incredibly excited to be hosting a disability-inclusive sport festival in partnership with Sport Birmingham! It will be a fantastic opportunity for local disabled young people and their families to come together and connect through sport. We are grateful to all the volunteers and organisations who will be supporting us during this event. Their dedication and efforts are key to making it a memorable and positive experience for all involved.”

Hayley James, Senior Partnerships Manager at Sport Birmingham, says: “It is fantastic to partner with Access Sport for this exciting event. It should be a terrific day that brings clubs from across the city together to introduce underserved and disabled young people to new inclusive sports and activities. We look forward to an exciting day!”

The festial takes place at Nechells Community Sports Centre, Rupert Street, Birmingham B7 5DT from 10.30am-2.30pm. Anyone interested in attending can sign up here.
