Andy Munro watches Blues draw at Huddersfield Town and wonders what the future holds.
No blame can be attached to Gary Rowett, who has gleaned a decent enough points return in the circumstances but that total is looking increasingly insufficient to keep Blues in the Championship. Unfortunately Rowett has inherited a lot of players who think they’re better than they really are. To compound that there seems to be a lack of proper influential ‘captain type’ characters in the team.
Take out Krystian Bielik, Koji Miyoshi, Paik Seung-ho (who admittedly had an off day) and Jay Stansfield, and there is little to recommend for a retained list for next season. To that small list I might add Ethan Laird and Lee Buchanan, even if both were run ragged by the Terriers but I’m sure both players will lack the loyalty of wanting to stay. Unfortunately we won’t see Stansfield for dust if we go down and I wouldn’t attach any blame to a young player who has sweated blood for the cause.
However, I feel that if we beat Norwich we would stay up, but to be honest a result against the Canaries is looking increasingly unlikely with a team that seems to have little backbone or fight .
I will still buy my season ticket next season, probably for League One matches, but what a sad state of affairs when things off the pitch seem so promising. Only at the Blues…
