Volunteers needed for support service

Become a befriender and help others.

During the Coronavirus pandemic and subsequent lockdowns, befrienders have become an invaluable support for elderly and vulnerable residents across Erdington and Kingstanding.

Witton Lodge Community Association is now seeking to recruit new people to volunteer as befrienders and provide those in need with the regular contact and reassurance they need in their daily lives.

Robert Netherway, Flourishing Community Service Manager, said: “We would like to hear from people who want to support those individuals who are isolated and vulnerable and struggling to cope in these uncertain times.

“This is a great opportunity to help people, both through regular telephone calls and encouraging them to attend some of the engagement activities we hold at Perry Common Community Hall.

“Working as a befriender is a very rewarding experience and has many benefits as you develop new skills while making a positive difference in the lives of others.”

If you can spare a minimum of three hours a week to volunteer as a befriender for Witton Lodge, contact the association on 0121 382 1930 or email: volunteering@wittonlodge.org.uk.
