More from the city’s regular jazz promoters.
Birmingham Jazz will be bringing another night of quality music to the 1,000 Trades bar in the Jewellery Quarter on Friday 21st September.
Red Kite are a sextet led by pianist Esben Tjalve, joined by the highly skilled musicians and seasoned lights of the UK jazz scene: Fulvio Sigurta (trumpet), Ross Hughes (bass clarinet and sax), Hannes Riepler (guitar), Jasper Høiby (bass) and Tim Giles (drums).
Their music is a seamless blend of electronic and acoustic sounds set in a jazz format combining the complex with accessibility and the composed with the improvised. The compositions create a musical universe that varies from cinematic meditative soundscapes to groovy noir tunes with reminiscent echoes of Miles Davis Bitches Brew.
As a result, the structure of the music allows for the improvised parts to interact and co-exist with the written material leaving the individual musician space to create their own sound within the band.
Red Kite will be launching their new album Theory of Colours this month and this gig is part of their tour around England. You can stream the album here
