Return for acclaimed saxophonist.
There’ll be another top evening of jazz at Jewellery Quarter venue 1,000 Trades this Friday 23rd November when Birmingham Jazz welcome Martin Speake back to Birmingham with his own quartet. Martin was a founding member of the innovative sax quartet Itchy Fingers in the eighties, touring the world with its unique sound. This quartet is four of the best today, including US drummer Jeff Williams, local man Fred Thomas on Bass and the exciting guitar sound of Mike Outram.
Martin Speake, Mike Outram and Jeff Williams have played for many years as a trio and now bassist Fred Thomas joins the group. This quartet brings together all of Martin’s musical influences alongside his favourite musical partners.
The four musicians are committed to improvising in the moment and will feature compositions from the CD Always A First Time in addition to music from his recent album Intention on Ubuntu Records featuring Ethan Iverson, Fred Thomas and James Maddren.
