A month in the life of a Bromsgrove arts centre.
An alt-folk band, Northern Soul legends and top-quality tribute acts are amongst the highlights for gig-goers at Artrix this September.
Kicking things off for September are Kim Lowings and The Greenwood with the official launch of their new album, Wild and Wicked Youth and also The Rat Pack Vegas Spectacular Show on Friday 8th September. Followed by rip roaring alt-folk band The Noble Jacks and ten- iece band The Total Commitments, on Saturday 9th September.
Pianist Paul Morton presents Spitfire on Sunday 10th September and audiences can get up and dance to Rockin’ on Heaven’s Door on Wednesday 13th September.
Richard Digance presents an enjoyable and intimate evening of songs and stories celebrating 50 years of his music on Thursday 14th September and 60s legends The Manfreds, with original front man Paul Jones, perform many of their hits, including Do Wah Diddy Diddy on Friday 15th September.
Saturday 16th November sees Northern Soul Live performing classic Motown, Soul and Northern Soul hits. Taking centre stage is The Edwin Starr Band featuring Angelo Starr on vocals with special guest Northern Soul legend Lorraine Silver. This Northern Soul and Motown party includes the hits Lost Summer Love, Higher & Higher, Dancing in the Street and Superstition. Ticket holders can arrive from 7pm when the dance floor will be open and the DJ will be playing an hour of Northern Soul classics.
Artrix presents a fantastic flurry of tributes throughout September, starting with international impersonator Paula Randell as Dame Shirley Bassey, on Sunday 17th September. With her fabulous eight piece orchestra, multiple replica costume changes and nostalgic film footage, Paula Randell will astound audiences with her remarkable likeness to the Dame herself, in a celebration of Bassey’s 80th birthday.
Audiences can experience Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple all in one show with Purple Zeppelin on Saturday 23rd September. This energetic two and a half hour show features four versatile musicians performing 30 classic rock songs. Direct from London’s West End, The Simon and Garfunkel Story: 50th Anniversary Tour will be wowing fans with renditions of the duo’s best-loved hits on Thursday 28th September followed by The Counterfeit Sixties, helping audiences relive the swinging sixties on Saturday 30th September.
A duo of quartets round off the month’s music as Swedish jazz quartet Örjan Hultén’s Orion come to Bromsgrove on Friday 29th September and also on 29th September; Castalian String Quartet explores the sounds of Beethoven, Haydn and Dutilleux.
