Andy Munro on Blues’ Friday night defeat at Burton.
It’s a shame that this headline has to be trotted out once more but we continue to have a terrible record at Burton. The fact that they hadn’t won this season perhaps made the resulting reverse depressingly predictable in terms of it always happens to the Blues – and there was even the curse of the returning striker(Llloyd Dyer). Mind you it did seem strange to play both Donaldson and Jutkiewicz together as if Harry had asked any Bluenose we would have told him that it wouldn’t ever work, and it didn’t.
Other than that, the depressing thing is that Blues generally had their ‘best’ team on view but still looked the inferior side. Losing two goals to a Burton attack was a worry especially as we had our two first choice defenders in place, so maybe it’s a full back issue. Maghoma netted and generally had a decent game, and the introduction of Cotterill and Vassell gave us some spark, albeit a little too late. Let’s hope Harry, who seems to have a penchant for older players, doesn’t just consign Vassell to the bench as an impact substitute..
Nobody is panicking yet but the signs aren’t particularly encouraging unless we can get some more players in. However, the extra concern is that even the existing team should be getting some sort of result at Burton and our defeat was almost Zolaesque in its under-performance.
