Heroes beat villains in Brindleyplace film vote

Film festival selections announced.

Brindleyplace has revealed the final selection for this year’s free outdoor Film Festival and it seems that good does always prevail, with heroes taking down the villains in the public vote.

Celebrating twenty years of the wizarding world of Harry Potter, the latest spin-off, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, topped the public vote, closely followed by Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. Other films that will be shown over the week-long festival include Top Gun, The Dark Knight, The Lion King, Dead Poets Society, Casino Royale and Cool Runnings.

Kicking off at 6pm on Monday 17th July with Marvel’s The Avengers, the free Brindleyplace Film Festival will run for one week on an outdoor screen in Central Square.

Nathan Sanghera, Marketing and Events Executive at Brindleyplace, said: “Heroes versus villains is a classic storyline and one that has been the premise to many films over the years. With that in mind, there were a lot of films to choose from! Hundreds of people from across Birmingham took the time to vote for which films they thought we should show at this year’s festival and it’s resulted in a great line up.

“Whether you love the fast-paced superhero thrill of the Avengers, the magic of Harry Potter or you’re after a romantic or girly night watching Top Gun, there’s no reason why you have to choose just one film to watch – you can come and watch them all – for free!”

Now in its sixth year, the Brindleyplace Film Festival is one of the most anticipated events on the summer calendar in Birmingham, with over 100,000 people attending last year. Restaurants around the development, including Wagamama, Zizzi and The Smoke Haus will be providing a take away menu for the duration of the Film Festival to give film goers the ultimate screening experience.

This year, Brindleyplace will be using the ever increasing popularity of the event to work with NICE Centre for Movement Disorders to help raise awareness of the charity and, as part of the Film Festival, they will be screening a trailer highlighting the important and often life-changing work they do.

Louise Watkins, Fundraising and Marketing Manager at NICE, said: “It’s fantastic for us to be involved in such a popular free event and be able to show the public the work we do with children and adults who have movement disabilities such as cerebral palsy and Parkinson’s, as well as individuals recovering from a stroke. We’ll be selling popcorn throughout the week so people will be able to help raise valuable funds for our specialised services and stock up on snacks before the film, whilst finding out more about NICE.”
