DanceXchange and Birmingham Weekender launch The Big Idea 2017
DanceXchange, the internationally known Birmingham-based dance organisation, is pleased to announce an open call-out for The Big Idea 17, a new commission destined to be premiered at this autumn’s Birmingham Weekender 2017 festival and go on to be performed at next year’s International Dance Festival Birmingham.
The Big Idea 17 is exclusively for dance artists working in the Midlands to submit the concept of a new production to be co-commissioned by IDFB and Birmingham Weekender and produced by DanceXchange. The winning Big Idea 17 must have a particular focus on dance or be multi-disciplinary movement based, and be designed to take performance to outdoor and public spaces in Birmingham, achieving high impact with maximum reach and visibility and with low demand for technical equipment and resources. The new commission will be produced with a view to touring to different spaces during both festivals and ultimately beyond.
Eleni Kyriacou, Producer for DanceXchange and IDFB says, “We are looking for a high quality, innovative idea that will entertain, engage and reflect Birmingham’s young diverse audiences. In particular, we welcome applications that contribute to the Year of South Asian Arts and Culture in Birmingham and the IDFB 2018 festival theme Future City of the Imagination.”
DanceXchange will work alongside the successful professional artist or company to produce and realise the Big Idea in a collaborative way. The deadline for proposal submissions is 15 May 2017 and the winning commission will be announced in June 2017. For more details visit www.dancexchange.org.uk
