Birmingham dance group recognises emerging talent.
DanceXchange, the internationally known Birmingham-based dance organisation, has announced the launch of an exciting new Artist Development Programme designed to support the growing community of dance artists working in the Midlands. The new programme, shaped in conversation with artists and tailored for different levels of experience, from emerging through to the more established, will enable recipients to make work, refine their craft, gain exposure, and learn the business of dance.
This new approach includes open-access programmes as well as invitation-only opportunities, broadening the range and diversity of artists who can benefit. The first two strands have now been announced, the dx Associates and the dx Choreography Award, and the chosen artists and companies have already begun their work.
Lucie Mirkova, Executive Producer at DanceXchange said, “These are great times for dance in Birmingham and the Midlands region, with more artists working here and new opportunities arising. We are excited and proud to be working with our new Associates and the first group of dx Choreography Award holders. We hope our expertise and support will assist them to develop their choreographic career and to achieve their ambitions.”
The dx Associates programme is for talented and ambitious artists who have strong ideas for high-quality productions. The chosen artists will be supported for up to 2 years with a bespoke development package including studio and production space, mentoring, guidance and a commission. dx aims to present the premiere of their work as part of our performance season. The strand is invitation only, and there will be opportunity for artists to express their interest in this level of support.
The dx Choreography Award is an ongoing programme for artists with the ambition to grow and further develop their practice, and will support up to eight early-career artists each year. Accessed through an open call process, successful applicants receive bespoke support in the form of studio and production space, advice and mentoring, as well as a cash bursary and the opportunity to present their work to industry contacts as part of a dx sharing event.
