Prospective students and parents shown new facility.
The British & Irish Modern Music Institute opens its latest college this October in Digbeth, Birmingham, and held its first Open Day at the Custard Factory last Saturday 21st January.
In keeping with BIMM’s ethos, the Open Day was also a mini-gig with superb performances of BIMM bands, Orchards and Romario.
The introduction came from Dara Kilkenny, Executive Principal of BIMM in Dublin and Manchester and now also BIMM Birmingham. Dara welcomed the audience, which included potential students and their parents, saying how it was not only an exciting day but also affirming that Birmingham is the perfect location for the latest BIMM college: “Spending time in this creative city has convinced me that this is the perfect place for us to open a new music college. We are thrilled about the opening of BIMM Birmingham and incredibly excited to welcome our first wave of students through the doors in October!”
BIMM’s Head of Promotional Events and Admissions, Anthony Giles then went on to deliver a slick and engaging presentation, which included two specially compiled short films, showing aspects of college life, BIMM’s philosophy, and a flavour of what it is all about.
During the event, BIMM Brighton band Orchards and BIMM Manchester’s Romario, both showcased some of their latest material. Orchards – who describe themselves as ‘Math Pop’ – transformed the room into an intimate gig, playing their tracks, Honey, Chemystery and Darling. Romario gave an impressive and confident performance with his laid-back soul, singing his self-penned, What are We Fighting For?
After the presentation and the live music, the audience were then invited to talk to the BIMM team, the musicians, and also staff from Admissions and Finance. Many people came up to the BIMM team afterwards, commenting on what a friendly, professional and informative day it had been.
