Best of European cinema to be shown in Birmingham

Behind The Curtain film festival is launching soon.

The third instalment of Behind the Curtain Festival will take place on 18th -27th November in Birmingham. Behind The Curtain is an Eastern and Central European Film Festival that spreads across venues in Birmingham each autumn, celebrating the best of Eastern European cinema and culture through film, music, discussions and workshops.

This year the festival will feature 17 full-length and short films from 12 countries, like Poland, Hungary, Czech Republic, and Slovakia, screening during the ten festival days. One of the most important movie features will be critically acclaimed The Last Family and United States of Love.

‘We have a pleasure to invite the audience again for our film festival. This year it offers many great feature films, as well as documentaries, music performances and animations for children. Many people work on this festival with us and we are proud to cooperate with other European organizations,” says Alicja Kaczmarek, director of Polish Expats Association.

The opening of the festival will take place on 18th November in venue Centrala. An evening will be filled with music and film, from Young Polish Classical violinists taking inspiration from traditional Polish music to Klezmer bands, Balkan Folk Musicians, and culminating with ex-Grindcore Experimental Electronic Pioneers Expect a selection of specialty Eastern European Drinks and Cocktails, delicious Polish cakes and doughnuts and more!

The highlight of the evening will be a screen taster of the Festival Films and a tribute to the late great Polish director Andrzej Wajda whose movie The Promised Land will be featured during the festival.

Behind the Curtain is organized and initiated by the Polish Expats Association and is a part of Birmingham Festivals.
