German composer-in-residence prepares to premiere new work after tutoring from BCMG.
Birmingham Contemporary Music Group’s Apprentice Composer-in-Residence Arne Gieshoff will premiere his new work Katá in a special concert this April.
The German composer has worked with BCMG during 2014 as part of the Apprentice Composer-in-Residence scheme, a unique initiative with Sound and Music and supported by the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation.
Now in its seventh year, the scheme gives valuable practical support and mentoring to emerging composers, allowing them to develop and sustain a career.
Arne Gieshoff has already had works performed in Britain, Germany, Luxembourg, Canada and China by a diverse range of soloists, ensembles and orchestras including the Philharmonia Orchestra, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, and his compositions have been broadcast by, amongst others, BBC Radio 3.
The piece to be premiered in April – Katá – is the result of a year’s work with BCMG. Gueshoff has been mentored by Artist-in-Association and world respected conductor Oliver Knusson, and has led workshops and education projects with BCMG’s Learning team.
