There’s a brand new addition to Birmingham’s social scene, as the hotly anticipated new bar and restaurant Gas Street Social, opened its doors at the Mailbox earlier this week.

Specialising in sharing and socialising, the exciting new venue serves up seasonal European food, alongside a range of drinks including international craft beers, fine wines and signature handcrafted cocktails.

On the menu, you’ll find a range of tried and tested sharing dishes, grazing boards, tapas-style social plates, and locally sourced meats and seafood, including the wood smoked Loch Duart salmon skewers with pickled ginger and the pan-seared Tidenham duck breast with a homemade twelve spice sauce. Speciality cocktails from the Shaker Group, the team behind the venue, are also set to be popular, like ‘The Socialite’, which combines Finlandia vodka, Aperol, pineapple, lime and passion fruit.

Located in the canalside area of the Mailbox and launched with support from the Regional Growth Fund, Gas Street Social features large sharing tables, intimate booth areas and a cosy ‘snug’ area. As the perfect venue for quick bites and lazy catch ups, the bar also provides a social hub in the city centre over the weekend, for late night drinks and music.

With the restaurant area catering for up to 120 diners, as well as an outdoor terrace for up to 36 people and a large bar area, Gas Street Social has already taken reservations for opening week.

Inspired by the industrial and cultural context of Birmingham’s rich history, the theming of Gas Street Social has been brought to life by design duo Spencer Swinden, the team also behind the popular Plough in Harborne.

Adam Freeth, managing director of Shaker Group and founder of Gas Street Social, said: “We’re delighted to be open for business at the Mailbox, delivering something new and exciting to the city centre. We’re incredibly proud of our food and drink offering, which represents our passion for locally sourced dishes that can be enjoyed in a social setting, and we’re looking forward to people coming to give us a try!”

David Pardoe, retail manager at the Mailbox, added: “Gas Street Social is just another fantastic reason to visit the Mailbox, which joins an already exciting line up of bars and restaurants here. Following the opening of Everyman Cinema last month, it marks an exciting time for the Mailbox ahead of the relaunch.”
