More than 60 students from Birmingham Ormiston Academy rubbed shoulders with a Broadway musical star as part of an international trip to New York City.
Open to all students at the creative, digital and performing arts academy in Birmingham’s Eastside district, the 64 students and eight staff visited The Big Apple to take part in a Broadway theatre workshop and pose questions to Kinky Boots cast member Stephen Tewksbury.
The pupils, all aged between 14 and 18, also took part in a dance workshop at the prestigious Steps on Broadway, visited the Rockettes at the Radio City Music Hall and attended performances of two Broadway shows.
Gaynor Cheshire, Principal at Birmingham Ormiston Academy, said: “It was a pleasure taking the students to New York. Not only were they able to experience the biggest showbiz city in the world, they also had the opportunity to take part in workshops which will prove to be invaluable to them in the future.
“Each student was a credit to the school and I’m hopeful that we will be able to continue to offer similar experiences in the future.”
Birmingham Ormiston Academy is open to students aged 14-18 who are looking to pursue careers in creative, digital and performance industries and is sponsored by Ormiston Trust and Birmingham City University, with founding partners Maverick TV and the BRIT School.
