Plan ahead for Xmas rail travel

Festive advice from train operator.

With rail services winding down early on Christmas Eve, London Midland is advising passengers to plan ahead.

The train operator is broadcasting special announcements and has placed posters around its 148 stations to make travellers aware of changes to timetables over the holiday period.

London Midland analyses passenger counts and ticket sales each year to predict likely demand for services over Christmas and New Year. Additional carriages will also be added to some trains during the festive period to reflect changes in demand.

This year train services will start to thin out from around 1300 hours on Christmas Eve, with last train services finishing early. There are no trains Christmas Day or Boxing Day.

London Midland’s commercial director Richard Brooks explained, “We want everyone to have a safe and comfortable journey this Christmas.

“One of the best ways to achieve this is to plan well ahead as all train operators amend their timetables over the festive period. This is to reflect the reduction in demand for services and major engineering works, including the redevelopment of Birmingham New Street station. Our work will continue long after our passengers have gone home.”

Customers can check timetables and plan their journey online, in advance, or on the move via the mobile site www.londonmidland.com. IPhone users can also download the London Midland app.
