What’s on at the Robin

Some big names and some new faces. 

A new arrival at the Robin takes the stage on Thursday. The Royal Southern Brotherhood are best described as a Southern rock supergroup, fronted by Devon (son of Gregg) Allman and featuring former members of many of the region’s finest bands including the Meters and the Neville Brothers. Their self-title debut album came out last year to immediate acclaim.

Returning on Friday are regulars at the venue, the Christians. One of the soul-influenced British bands of the eighties, their first five singles made the Top 40 and their debut album The Christians went on to sell over a million copies with follow-up Colour topping the charts. Since then they’ve toured regularly and last year celebrated their 25th anniversary by re-releasing their first two albums.

On Saturday there’s tribute act the Counterfeit Stones.

Sunday afternoon sees the first monthly final in the Robin/M2 Studios Live Band of the Year competition.

Then on Sunday evening there’s Dennis Locorriere, another regular at the Robin. Best known as the voice of Dr Hook, Dennis is also an acclaimed actor who has starred with Dustin Hoffman, a songwriter whose work has been covered by Bob Dylan, Wille Nelson and Jerry Lee Lewis amongst others and an accomplished solo artist whose three studio albums have received wide praise.
