Season of comedy at mac Birmingham

This autumn, mac birmingham has a rib-tickling line-up of comedians, guaranteed to put a smile on the grumpiest of faces; including Jo Caulfield, Hardeep Singh Kohli, Simon Munnery, and Mark Thomas.

The season kicks off with mac birmingham’s monthly comedy night Kill for a Seat on Fri 7 Sep. Held on the first Friday of the month, it promises a side-splitting selection of established names and up-and-comers. Confirmed acts for over the autumn season include Simon Munnery, Elis James and Benny Boot, alongside regular host Silky.

On Thu 27 Sep, Jo Caulfield will be performing her latest show Better the Devil You Know. Familiar to many through her appearances on BBC panel shows such as Have I Got News for You and Mock the Week, Jo’s acerbic style can be seen in full force during this celebration of anger, pondering questions like ‘Why are drunken girlfriends so much fun?’, ‘Which hotel has the best porn?’ and ‘What constitutes an airtight alibi?’.

Women & Theatre’s annual Fun(d)raiser is back on Sun 7 Oct with Barbara Nice and Gals. The popular housewife and mother of five will be bringing together some of the UK’s top comediennes, including headline act Isy Suttie (Channel 4’s Peep Show), for one night only. The full line-up for this event will be announced in the coming weeks.
Hardeep Singh Kohli makes a welcome return to mac birmingham on Thu 18 Oct following his sell-out show last year. For Indian Takeaway he will cook live on stage, against the clock, in a bid to find the best Indian takeaway in the country. Expect recipe tips, anecdotes and wonderful stories of his shared Scottish and Indian heritage along the way, and a few lucky audience members will be invited up on stage for the ultimate taste test.

Mark Thomasmac birmingham will also be welcoming back comedian and political activist Mark Thomas for his latest show Bravo Figaro from Mon 3 – Wed 5 Dec. After walking the wall in the West Bank, becoming Guinness World Record holder for political protests and chasing arms dealers around the country, Mark Thomas turns his attention to matters closer to home with a show about his father, opera, love, death and the search for peace in an imperfect world… with some gags thrown in for luck and told by one of the country’s finest storytellers.

There will be top class comedy with all the trimmings with Barbara Nice’s Christmas Cracker on Fri 7 Dec. The local superstar housewife will be returning for her second show of the season to sprinkle a bit of festive magic with a bumper selection box of fun – after all, Christmas is a time for giving, and no-one loves giving more than Barbara Nice!

Tickets for all shows are now on sale and can be booked through www.macarts.co.uk, or through mac birmingham’s Sales & Information on 0121 446 3232. For each performance, a meal deal is available giving audiences the chance to grab a tasty bite to eat before the show – just £5 for a burger, chips and salad (vegetarian options available).
