HND and HNC students from the College have organised every part of the show themselves, from production and printing to planning and publicity.   The group will be opening the show, which runs from June 13 to 24, with a private viewing for guests at the New Street venue.

The eclectic exhibition features a variety of themes including Barbers, Heavy Metal Bands, Goth Fashion and Teen Mums.  Gritty urban landscapes will also be on display along with striking black and white images of food photography.

This show marks a change for the photography graduates, who normally exhibit at the Custard Factory in Birmingham, but have broken with tradition and decided to bring it back home to West Bromwich.  Sandwell College’s long term partnership with The Public, in the past has seen students work alongside internationally renowned Magnum photographer, Martin Parr, and experiment with touch screen technology in ‘Touch Interactive’.

Photography team leader at Sandwell College, David Waldron, said,  “These pictures have been created by our emerging photographers and show what our highly talented students’ are capable of.  We’re keen to display them to a wider audience and The Public, which is just metres from the college, provides us with the ideal venue.”

Linda Saunders, Managing Director of The Public said, “By working alongside Sandwell College in this exciting exhibition, we’re not only helping to assist their students’ development but also provide them an excellent opportunity to exhibit their work alongside internationally renowned artists.”

‘Raw Goes Public’ will be displayed for free at The Public from 13 to 24 June 2012, Wednesday to Saturday,10am to 5pm, and Sunday from 11am to 3pm.
