Season's Greeting's - The Company

This classic comedy provides an entertaining look at the misery and high jinks the average family endures over the Christmas period.

The action takes place in the Bunker household where family and friends have come together to celebrate the festive period, and celebrate they do. But as the children lurk just out of sight, it’s the adults who are letting the side down.

Presiding over the festivities are two warring uncles, one a kindly, incompetent doctor with an interminable puppet show to perform; the other a bullying, retired security guard who dominates the TV, brings toy guns for his nieces and determines there’s a thief in their midst.

This new adaptation of Season’s Greetings features a superb cast including EastEnders actress and one half of the TV crime fighting duo Dempsey and Makepeace Glynis Barber, Denis Lill, Mr. Rose in the acclaimed TV drama The Royal, EastEnders and Strictly Come Dancing star Ricky Groves, Emmerdale barman Mathew Bose, Jenny Funnell, who played Sandy in the hit comedy series As Time Goes By and Christopher Timothy, who played James Herriot in one of the best-loved TV series All Creatures Great and Small and more recently as ‘Mac’ McGuire in Doctors.

Alan Ayckbourn is a celebrated theatre director and playwright, having written 75 full length plays, many of which are satirical comedy plays about middle class England. His work has won him two Olivier Awards and one Tony Award and in 1997 he received a knighthood for his contribution to British theatre. In addition to Season’s Greetings, which he wrote in 1980, some of his successes include Absurd Person Singular, The Norman Conquests trilogy, Bedroom Farce and A Small Family Business.

Prior to this production, Season’s Greetings was most recently revived at The National Theatre in a critically acclaimed production starring Catherine Tate and Neil Stuke.
