Listening to Radio 5Live last week, I heard a report about a problem with drunkenness on the current Take That tour.
A couple of days ago we got a press release from the ambulance service warning about over-indulging at their Villa Park gigs on Monday and Tuesday. The same warning was repeated by the St John’s Ambulance on Monday morning.
Newspapers have been full of lurid reports of drunken behaviour throughout their tour. “Worse than football hooligans” has been widely quoted but it’s proving difficult to track down who said it.
I can’t remember any tour where so much coverage, or indeed, any coverage at all, has been devoted to the amount of drink consumed by the audience. I’d say I don’t know the reason for this surprising emphasis on the crowd rather than the music, but it’s obvious really, isn’t it?
