Cyber Day

DalekA robot-themed activity day will be taking place at The Public in West Bromwich on Saturday 28 May to coincide with their free ‘Out of this Universe’ sci-fi exhibition and launch of a week full of half-term family fun.

‘Cyber Day’, which is free to attend, will feature a number of out of this world experiences including; the opportunity to meet a moving, talking Dalek, take part in The Public Cyber Quest treasure hunt, decorate robot biscuits, and join in with fun-filled intergalactic workshops and activities!

At various intervals throughout the day, 12.30pm, 1.30pm and 2.30pm, a Dalek will descend on the West Bromwich arts centre, roaming around the ground floor of the building.  Visitors to The Public will have an opportunity to have their photo taken with the extraterrestrial being and keep a memento of their intergalactic encounter by having their image printed onto a mug, t-shirt or badge in the ‘Make’ gift shop for a minimal cost.

At 1pm, 2pm and 3pm visitors to the Black Country arts centre will also have the opportunity to meet ‘Big Blue’, a fully operational animatronic robot.  Made from 90% recycled materials including two golf trolleys, wheelchair electrics and an old karaoke machine, the 6 foot tall talking robot is set to delight visitors as it moves around the building.

Those attending the activity day in robot themed fancy dress will also be in with the chance of winning a host of cool sci-fi prizes.  To provide inspiration for the fancy dress competition, a special Saturday Art Club will be taking place from 10am to 1pm, where 3 to 11 year olds can come along and create their own robot themed costume for just £2.  The competition which is free to enter and open to all ages will be judged at 2pm.

Linda Saunders, Managing Director at The Public said, “Our ‘Out of this Universe’ exhibition has generated a tremendous amount of interest within the local community so there will no doubt be much excitement with the arrival of a talking Dalek.   Cyber Day promises to be a fun-filled event for the whole family and will be a great way to kick off half-term.”

Cyber Day coincides with The Public’s ‘Out of this Universe’ exhibition, featuring a collection of models and costumes from hit sci-fi productions such as Dr Who and Star Wars.  The exhibition is free to visit and runs until 26 June, Wednesday to Saturday, 10am to 5pm, Sunday, 11am to 3pm.

Throughout May half term from 28 May to 4 June, a number of fun-filled workshops will take place at The Public providing visitors of all ages with the opportunity to develop their creative skills and try something new.
