Christmas in Cathedral Square back for 2023

Award-winning attraction returns to the grounds of Birmingham Cathedral.

Delivered in partnership by Colmore BID, Birmingham City Council, Danter Attractions Ltd and Birmingham Cathedral, Christmas in Cathedral Square will take place in the grounds of Birmingham Cathedral between Wednesday 15th November and Sunday 17th December, with local West Midlands traders holding stalls offering crafts, food, and drink.

The partnership is excited to bring the community together in the Cathedral grounds for the annual Christmas Light Switch-On, which celebrates the opening of the market and attractions. This event will take place on Wednesday 15th November from 6pm to 9pm.

At the launch, visitors can enjoy a free evening of entertainment including the Christmas tree lights switch-on with some very special guests in attendance. Over the course of the event, visitors to Christmas in Cathedral Square can expect music from local artists from Albert’s Schloss, the Snowdog Art Trail, and traditional crafts, ornaments, and gifts from an array of independent West Midland businesses. Stallholders include Summer & Silver, Miss Macaroon, and students from Aston University.

There will also be a selection of pop-up food and drinks vendors, as well as the return of the much-loved Pigeon in the Park pub. Food and drinks vendors include Gaucho, Chatty Patty and Vagabond.

Michele Wilby, CEO of Colmore BID commented, “When we created Christmas in Cathedral Square, we knew we had made something special. It is different to other Christmas events. Not only does it have all the usual Christmas cheer, but it also has the charm of taking place in the heart of the Colmore Business District.

“The feedback we’ve received over the last two years has been fantastic, so we’re excited to bring the event back for a third year with a few new elements, too. It seems that people are already excited for Christmas in Cathedral Square, as well as Christmas in the Colmore Business District as a whole.”

Anna Pitt, CEO of Birmingham Cathedral added, “Christmas in Cathedral Square is a highlight of our Christmas and Advent season, and we are excited to be welcoming visitors to enjoy our beautiful grounds and the traders on offer at this year’s market. Birmingham Cathedral is also free for visitors to come inside. Our stunning Burne-Jones windows will be revealed after their extensive cleaning, offering an exceptional backdrop to this year’s Christmas in Cathedral Square. We will be holding a range of traditional services, inspiring concerts, and unique experiences for all to enjoy this Christmas.”

Christmas in Cathedral Square will run from Wednesday 15th November to Sunday 17th December. The market is open Monday to Wednesday from 11am to 8pm, Thursday to Saturday from 11am to 9pm, and Sunday from 12.30pm to 8pm.
