Time to concentrate on the league

Andy Munro finds consolation as Blues go out of the FA Cup to Blackburn Rovers.

It might be an old adage but maybe it’s true for in this case, especially as an away trip to Leicester in the fifth round was hardly a mouthwatering prospect.

Blues started this match in lethargic style but, in fairness, perked up and probably made more chances than the opposition but to no avail.

As usual there were both good and bad performances, starting with Neil Etheridge – excellent shot stopping but woeful kicking. In front of him, Auston Trusty was the pick despite his unfortunate own goal, whilst kevin Long again looked suspect. Ditto Dion Sanderson, who was culpable for the Blackburn winner and generally looked uncomfortable.

In front of them Alfie Chang was neat and tidy without setting the world alight and flanking wing backs did all that was asked of them with Emmanuel Longelo, now permanently on the books (to the apparent annoyance of many Hammers fans), recapturing the form that he displayed when he first joined on loan.

Up front Scott Hogan is going through one of his barren spells but Reda Khadra was the star and almost unplayable at times. A word also for the Juke, who again never let the side down when he came on although perhaps he should have netted

It was disappointing to lose the way Blues did but let’s hope a decent performance can now be reflected in the league.
