Reward offered for information regarding baby’s death

Charity offers £5,000 reward over tragic discovery of baby’s body in Walsall canal.

The sad discovery of a baby’s body in a canal in Walsall is now being treated as murder. Crimestoppers, the independent charity that takes information 100% anonymously, is encouraging anyone with information about what happened to speak up. There is also mounting concern for the welfare of the mother.

The newborn baby boy, who is believed to be full-term, was sadly discovered by a passer-by in Rough Wood Country Park, off Hunts Lane in Willenhall, at around 1pm on Thursday, 20th May. It is believed the baby may have been in the water for up to four days.

Crimestoppers charity is now offering a reward of up to £5,000 for information the charity exclusively receives that leads to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for offences, including murder, linked to the death of the baby. Information can be passed to Crimestoppers’ 0800 555 111 number or via the simple and secure anonymous online form at crimestoppers-uk.org.

Mick Duthie, Director of Operations at the charity Crimestoppers, said: “This is a particularly sad, tragic case and shocking for the community, so we are keen to have answers as to what happened and who was involved. We are urging anyone who may know something to contact our charity anonymously as soon as possible. There is concern also for the wellbeing of the baby’s mother.

“Investigators, who have asked our charity to put up this reward, believe that someone may know or suspect who the mother is. We hope that our reward for information given anonymously will help prompt someone’s conscience to speak up and tell us what they know.

“Everyone who contacts Crimestoppers stays 100% anonymous. Always. We have kept this promise for over 32 years. When you call our UK Contact Centre on freephone 0800 555 111, which is open 24/7, or use our simple, secure and anonymous online form at www.crimestoppers-uk.org to give information, nobody will know you contacted us, only you.”
