New domestic violence support service launched

Helping victims of domestic violence in north Birmingham.

An increase in domestic violence across Erdington has prompted Witton Lodge Community Association to further extend its provision.

West Midlands Police say there has been a significant rise in the number of reported incidents since April last year.

In response, Witton Lodge has now launched Momentum, a support service dedicated to helping those who have experienced abuse. Statistics reveal that people who experience domestic violence can, as a consequence, suffer from poor physical and mental health.

Rob Netherway, Flourishing Community Services Manager for the Association, said: “The Momentum support service has been launched to support people who have experienced first-hand the effects of domestic violence and abuse. We welcome anyone to come and share their experiences with our trained health professionals who will provide a friendly and confidential service to help individuals through their journey.

“Momentum is being delivered in a way which we hope restores confidence in people and helps them gain the life skills they need to make positive choices; inspiring hope for them to make changes which enable them to rebuild their lives. Where additional support may be required, Momentum will connect people to other Erdington based agencies who can help them plan for their future.”
