Landmark project for Erdington launched

Support network for independent older people to begin.

The launch of the Erdington Neighbourhood Network Scheme has been hailed a great success with a generous number of organisations and individuals attending; all keen to explore opportunities for supporting older people to live independent and connected lives.

Last Wednesday’s event at The GRS Lions Club, hosted by Witton Lodge Community Association in partnership with Compass Support, provided visitors with an insight into the ambitions of the project and guidance on how people can apply for funding through a Small Grants Programme which offers up to £10,000.

Sarah Blackstock, lead co-ordinator for ENNS, said: “The Erdington Neighbourhood Network Scheme is a constituency-based network of community, voluntary and social enterprise organisations who will enable engagement with those organisations and individuals who can provide support and activities which older people can benefit from.”

The goal of ENNS is to provide access to activities and support services which help reduce isolation, promote positive health and wellbeing and encourage people to actively participate in their community.

“The ultimate aim is to help people live independent and connected lives,” added Sarah.

In the coming months Witton Lodge Community Association and Compass Support will be working to cultivate a support network of organisations and agencies to establish a portfolio of resources which can deliver the solutions older people require to overcome challenges like poor physical and emotional health.
