Brindleyplace is The Greatest Show

Record crowds attend film festival.

Record crowds came to see The Greatest Showman at the Brindleyplace Film Festival at the weekend, with the event attracting thousands of people to the estate.

The Film Festival took place between 16th and 22nd July and showed nine films in total, all of which were free to attend, attracting over 89,000 visitors over the course of the week.

Crowds of more than 500 people turned out to see the modern and classic films chosen by the public, including La La Land and Casablanca, but it was The Greatest Showman that packed out Central Square with over 1,500 in attendance.

Stacey Muir, Marketing Executive at Brindleyplace, said: “This was the seventh annual Film Festival at Brindleyplace and it’s great to see how it has grown year on year, attracting more and more people from across the city.

“After receiving the most votes overall, we were expecting The Greatest Showman to be our most popular film but the record-breaking footfall we saw was incredible and by the time the film started it was standing room only – we even got lucky with the weather!”

This year’s Film Festival also saw a series of short films by The Royal Society for Blind Children – one of the Brindleyplace charity partners – shown as trailers to raise awareness of the impact of sight loss on children’s lives.

Rob Cartwright, Head of Corporate at Royal Society for Blind Children, added: “Thanks to everyone that supported us at the Film Festival this year we raised over £4,000, all of which will enable our two West Midlands Family Workers to continue supporting the families of blind children emotionally and practically for as many months or years as they need us.”

Brindleyplace is now counting down to the Chilli Festival which takes place between 14-15 September, to find out more about any of the upcoming events and activities on the estate, visit brindleyplace.com/events-brindleyplace
