Birmingham Hospice seeks volunteers

Learn how to make a New Year’s resolution – and a difference.

Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice is encouraging people from Birmingham and Sandwell to make volunteering top of their New Year’s resolution list.

On Tuesday 17th January between 12pm and 2pm, the Hospice will be hosting a drop-in session at Birmingham Voluntary Service Council (B5 6DR) for those interested in making a difference this year. At the drop-in session, members of the public will be able to find out more about the range of flexible volunteering opportunities the charity has available and how they can get involved.

Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice relies heavily on the support from volunteers to enable them to provide free end of life care and support at the Hospice, in people’s homes and out in the community to local families living with a terminal illness.

Fundraising Volunteer Coordinator Maria Goodwin at Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice said: “Throughout January, we’re encouraging people to make a resolution that will not only benefit themselves but their local community. Volunteering is a great way of giving something back but also an opportunity to learn new skills and make new friends. At Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice, we have lots of fantastic volunteering roles so why not come along to the drop-in session to find out how you can make a difference?”

Volunteering opportunities at the Hospice include event marshals, shop assistants, reception and admin support, volunteer support workers and representing the Hospice at social events as a Hospice ambassador.

Polly Patel who volunteers as a Hospice Ambassador said: “I would say to anyone thinking about volunteering, that giving is a gift. Give a little time and make a difference to people with a terminal illness and their families.”

To find out more about the volunteer opportunities available at the Hospice you can visit the drop-in session or visit their website. Alternatively you can call the Hospice on 0121 472 1191 for further information.
