Kenneth Branagh’s Theatre Company Live cinema season continues at Bromsgrove’s Artrix arts centrein July with a new vision of Shakespeare’s heartbreaking tale of forbidden love.

Branagh and his team have created a modern version of the classic tragedy Romeo and Juliet. A longstanding feud between Verona’s Montague and Capulet families brings about devastating consequences for two young lovers caught in the conflict. Reuniting the stars of his celebrated film of Cinderella, Kenneth Branagh directs Richard Madden and Lily James, who starred in Downton Abbey, as Romeo and Juliet and Sir Derek Jacobi as Mercutio.

Kenneth Branagh’s Romeo and Juliet is screening at Artrix on Sunday 10th July. Tickets cost £15.00 (£13.00).

Steven Arnold, best known as Ashley Peacock in Coronation Street, is getting ready to take on the role of Charlie Chaplin in an upcoming show at Artrix in Bromsgrove. The heart-warming and hilarious musical plays tribute to one of cinema’s earliest and greatest comedians. This nostalgic and vibrant show tells the story of Chaplin’s modest and troubled childhood growing up in the gutters of Victorian London. The action then turns to Chaplin’s early showbiz career on the Vaudeville stage, through the primitive years of early Hollywood and finishes with his big breakthrough role in film which made him a household name – ‘The Kid’.

The Charlie Chaplin Story is at Artrix on Wednesday 13th July. Tickets cost £20.

The iconic Abbey Road album came at the height of the Beatles’ success. The unforgettable picture of the quartet strolling over the level crossing in Abbey Road marked the last chapter in the band’s history. In April 1970, Paul McCartney announced he was leaving the band and he then went on to form Wings which went on to spawn a phenomenal 23 singles and nine albums.

Wings Over Abbey Road is a celebration of McCartney’s career. The first half of the show is a live performance of the entire Abbey Road album and the second is an authentic tribute to some of Wing’s greatest hits.

Wings Over Abbey Road is at Artrix on Friday 15th July. Tickets cost £17.50.

The legendary DJ and broadcaster David Hamilton began his career in 1959 and has hosted more than 12,000 radio shows and over 1,000 TV shows. In Rock ‘n Roll Back the Years, David has hand-picked an amazing band of musicians including The Fugitives and the sensational Tiffany Girls to accompany him.

This two hour show will transport you back to the time of bee hives, mini skirts and hot pants in an instant. With David’s witty and knowledgeable commentary, this is likely to be a fabulous summer’s evening of entertainment.

David Hamilton’s Rock’n’Roll Back The Years is at Artrix on Saturday 16th July at 7.30 pm. Tickets cost £20.

With the summer holidays just around the corner, youngsters and their families have plenty to look forward to at Artrix. The Bromsgrove arts centre is hosting a month long Family Fun Festival which features a huge array of family-friendly events, some of which are free.

Amongst the highlights are two week-long Stage Schools which are suitable for those aged 6-17 years old. In The Back to the 60s Stage School, which runs from Monday 25th to Friday 29th July, future stage stars can take part in a fun-packed week of singing, dancing and drama based on the iconic music of the swinging sixties.

In the Wish Upon a Star Stage School, which runs from Monday 8th to Friday 12th August, mermaids, pirates and princesses can sing, dance and act their way through the week. At the end of each Stage School there will be a performance for friends and families. Places for Artrix’s week-long Summer Stage Schools cost £120 per child.
