Good Morning Britain doctor thanks his personal ‘Birmingham Children’s Hospital’

Recognition for Birmingham medic who saved seriously ill granddaughter.

Good Morning Britain’s Dr Hilary Jones visited Birmingham Children’s Hospital as part of the programme’s Health Star awards which launched this week.

Recognising the best in British healthcare, the Health Star awards are looking for anyone who has gone above and beyond what is expected of them in the health-related field.

To launch the awards the GMB presenters all revealed who their Health Star was and for Dr Hilary it was Mr Mike Singh, who operated on his granddaughter Bella when she became ill with pneumonia at 18 months old.

Thanking Mr Singh for his work, Dr Hilary said: “You remember those events three years ago and it’s my family’s privilege to come back here and say a proper thank you. You saved her life that day, you were operating from seven in the morning until after midnight, non stop. It was a fraught time for everybody and you wouldn’t know that she’d been so, so poorly.”

Dr Hilary continued: “We’re very privileged and you do such a great job every day of the year. You are an inspiration to me and to all of us…”

The Good Morning Britain Health Star awards take place on April 14th at the Hilton Park Lane in London and will air on the programme the following morning, April 15th. The categories that viewers can nominate in are Hospital Health Star, Lifesaver Health Star and Community Health Star and the closing date for entries is Friday 11th March
