The Birmingham Press

Live, loud and lewd

Some upcoming gigs for your perusal.

August is traditionally a time when decent gigs are thin on the ground. However, there are a few on our patch worth going to in the next few days.

On Thursday 8th August the Tubes will be playing the Robin. One of the most visual rock bands ever, and with a set full of glam-punk-rock’n’roll classics to back up the theatricals, it’s almost forty years since singer Fee Waybill broke his leg leaping offstage into the audience armed with a chainsaw. Their live shows have been toned down since those days but you’ll still have a night to remember.

Tickets £22.50

Sunday 16th August sees a new band at the Robin with prog rockers Cloud Atlas on stage. Formed as a project by Heidi Widdop of Mostly autumn, the band have gained a growing reputation, winning the Classic Rock Society’s award for best newcomer in 2014 and releasing their debut album Beyond the Vale to wide acclaim.

Tickets £12

Tickets for these and other Robin gigs can be obtained from the box office on 01902-401211 or www.therobin.co.uk

Further afield, old favourites the Levellers play the Leamington Assembly on Wednesday 19th August. The anarcho-folk rockers have been touring and recording foerdecades, with a worldwide reputation on both fronts.

Tickets £20 from www.leamingtonassembly.com or 0871 220 0260.
