Coming up at Artrix

Up and coming names, childrens entertainment and a few legends at the Bromsgrove arts centre.

Two comedians familiar to TV viewers are appearing later this month.

James Acaster is known for his whimsical rabbiting but recent appearances on Never Mind The Buzzcocks have proved him to be capable of fast and funny quips as well.

The stand-up launched himself onto the Edinburgh stage with his critically acclaimed debut sell-out show Amongst Other Things in 2011 and since then he has become an award-winning stand-up with countless credits on TV and radio.

Heralded by critics, Paul Foot’s previous tours have been showered with five star reviews and nominations. His subversive, insightful absurdity constantly challenges and delights his faithful connoisseurs, leaving “your sides sore and your face wet with tears” (Edinburgh Evening News).

James Acaster is appearing at Artrix on Thursday 23rd October – ticket price £13 (£11) and Paul Foot presents Hovercraft Symphony in Gammon # Major at Artrix on Thursday 30th October at 8.00 pm – ticket price £12.50.

Back in 1957 John Steel along with fellow Animals co-founder Eric Burdon began playing their trade in and around their native Tyneside with not the slightest inking that they would – in a very few years – find themselves part of a group that would be forever bracketed with the very best of British music. The Animals were also the second British band after the Beatles to top the American charts with their multi-million selling anthem, House of The Rising Sun.

Following their recent critically acclaimed tour, the legendary line-up are back on the circuit. Joining John Steel and Mickey Gallagher along with Danny Handley and Scott Whitley will be the superlative soul legend Steve Cropper. A comprehensive list of his work would take far too long to list, but it includes Booker T & the MGs, the Blues Brothers and writing such classics as Green Onions, Dock of the Bay and Soul Man.

Animals & Friends with Steve Cropper are playing at Artrix on Sunday 26th October at 7.30 pm. Tickets cost £22.00

Celebrated tenor Plácido Domingo takes centre stage in a Verdi opera to be screened at Artrix on Monday 27th October.

Based on Byron’s historical play The Two Foscari, Verdi’s dramatic three-act opera I Due Foscari has not been heard at the Royal Opera House for nearly 20 years. This new staging by American director Thaddeus Strassberger was premiered in LA in 2012 to wide acclaim.

Royal Opera House Live presents I Due Foscari on Monday 27th October at 7.15pm. Tickets cost £15.00 (£12 students and under 16s).

A play based on a best-selling children’s book is one the highlights at Artrix during half-term week. Blunderbus Theatre is presenting a stage version of Duck tn the Truck based on the popular book by children’s author Jez Alborough.

Artrix Cinema is also screening two family films to stave off boredom during the holidays – Planes: Fire and Rescue and The Boxtrolls.

Blunderbus Theatre present Duck in the Truck on Tuesday 28th October at 2.00 pm. Tickets cost £10.00 (£8.00), Family ticket £32.00. Planes Fire and Rescue (PG) is showing on Monday 27th and Wednesday 29th October at 2.30 pm. The Boxtrolls (PG) is showing on Thursday 30th and Fri 31st October at 11.00 am and there is an accessible screening on Saturday 1st November at 2.30 pm.
