Coventry set for Festival of Imagineers

Imagineer Productions to curate ideas event.

Imagineer Productions are bringing a new outdoor event to Coventry on Saturday 9th August. The Festival of Imagineers will bring together imagineers from the creative industries with visionaries from the worlds of design, technology and engineering for a day of performances and amazing activities.

Godiva’s new cavalcade will open the Festival with a cycle powered procession designed by children, built by engineers and led by Coventry’s own 6metre high Godiva. Early evening in the Cathedral Ruins will see the first outing in Coventry of the amazing hummingbird, Godiva’s faithful companion, and Imagineers newest street performance. Created over the last twelve months by the engineer/artists who created Godiva herself, the hummingbird is a beautiful mechanical free flying bird representative of all people in all communities who make a difference.

The Festival will see the first public showcase of Matt Denton’s extraordinary giant hexapod animatronic spider, the largest all-terrain operational hexapod robot in the World. In addition there will be performances throughout the day by outdoor theatre companies from across the UK including Acrojou, Pif-Paf, the London Vegtable Orchestra, the Jelly Rollers, Crocodile Style and the Bureau of Silly Ideas.

Alongside performances visitors will be able to explore interactive and innovative exhibits and activities, from operating the amazing mechanical Godiva puppet to creating vegetable instruments, navigating a tricycle obstacle course and making a jet engine.

Jane Hytch, Chief Executive Godiva Awakes said: “This first Festival of Imagineers is a real opportunity to share the imagineering skill of creatives and engineers from across our region and beyond. We hope people come along to watch the performances and get involved with the many activities on offer, including a chance to operate our amazing Godiva for themselves.”

Cllr Abdul Khan, Cabinet Member Culture, Leisure, Sports, Parks and Events Coventry City Council said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for residents of Coventry, and visitors from further afield, to join us in celebrating the extraordinary ingenuity of our City and the wider region. We put great events on in Coventry and this will be a fantastic celebration of all things creative with the chance for inquisitive minds to be inspired by amazing design.”

The Festival of Imagineers takes place on Saturday 9th August and runs from 11am – 5pm in Broadgate and from 5.30pm – 8.30pm in the Cathedral Ruins.
