Concert raises funds for Birmingham medical charity

A charity concert has raised £700 for the Edgbaston-based charity Ammalife.

The world famous Kings Men, the adult scholars of the Choir of Kings College, Cambridge University, sang to a packed Birmingham Cathedral earlier this month to help raise cash. The event was organised by the city’s Lunar Society.

Ammalife, which is sponsored by the Birmingham Press, offers specialist maternity care for women in developing countries with projects in Africa and Asia. It works to save lives in some of the poorest countries in the world where women’s needs and rights are often overlooked. Doctors and nurses from the city’s Women’s Hospital organise and manage hospital care, research and training for staff in places as diverse as Malawi and Pakistan.

The charity also funds post0graduate work for UK health workers to advance their learning. A charity spokesperson commented: “It is terrific that money was raised by Birmingham to help out. Over 700 women die almost every day from pregnancy related complications. We try to save lives with these figures in mind.’
