The Birmingham Press

This week at the Robin

Old favourites, new arrivals and good causes.

Tuesday gives a chance to see rock veterans Y&T at the Robin. Since forming in the San Francisco Bay area in 1974 the band have sold millions of albums and toured the world. The number of acts who acknowledge them as an influence includes Metallica and Motley Crue, while they’ve been the support act of choice for such megastars as Ozzy Osbourne, AC/DC and Aerosmith.

Tickets £16

Another rock veteran is in town on Thursday, although this one’s a name who has played many times before at the venue. Albert Lee & his band Hogan’s Heroes are one of the most well-respected country rock bands around. Since being formed by steel guitarist Gerry Hogan (hence the name) in 1987 they’ve toured the world, appeared regularly on TV and played just about every festival that’s ever existed.

Ticket £ 17.50

Friday sees an AOR tribute night with A Foreigner’s Journey.

Tickets £10

On Saturday there’s the annual Rock against Cancer benefit in aid of Cancer Research UK. Acts lined up so far this year include Stampede, Tranzam, Paul Bridgewater, Off the Rails and Devoted to Rock, with more to be added. More information about this can be found at www.rockagainstcancer.co.uk

The next heat of the Robin/M2 Studios Live Band of the Year competition takes place on Sunday afternoon and features Klassside, Far Forest, Evolution of Man and The Crimson Star.
