Summer of fun at The Public

This Summer The Public becomes Fun Factory – a place where art, fun and entertainment come together.

From 22 July to 3 September, visitors to the West Bromwich arts centre will be able take part in a number of creative workshops, be wowed by a festival of street theatre and explore the gallery’s free exhibitions.

Packed full of play, exploration and creation, throughout the summer holidays children, young people and families can try their hand at a wide range of activities from digital design to soft play, gaming to photography, drama to den building.

Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, the Art Fun Inventor Lab, designed for 4-11 year olds, will be full of creative problem solving challenges, and within the Fun Factory Art Zone, a special family friendly space for 18 month to 4 year olds, little ones will be able play with giant building blocks, puppets and parachutes.

Apprentices from Learnplay Foundation return each Tuesday and Thursday with their ever popular Gaming Days, showing participants how to create their own computer game level, and on 10 and 11 August Electronic Dojo will be hosting a VSFighting Tournament, showcasing some of the best fighting games in the UK.

Throughout the summer holidays a series of workshops led by local artists will also take place within the Black Country venue.  Families will be able make their very own dance videos in Lights, Camera, Action (15 August), capture spectacular aerial footage in Balloon Photography (8 August) and join in with singing and storytelling in Little Big Voices (30 July and 20 August).

Kids with an interest in amateur dramatics will be able to join in a week of play making from 22 to 26 July.  Over the course of the week, 8 to 13 year olds will learn how to perform, create costumes and props, and put a show together in free drama workshop, Play in a Week.

Each Wednesday, performers and theatre groups from across the region will come together to be part of an eclectic festival of street theatre outside the building.  WOW! Festival, curated by Freshold Theatre, will feature a diverse mix of acts from dance and live music to circus performers and magicians, in a celebration of local creative talent.
