58 pupils studying Musical Theatre at Birmingham Ormiston Academy (BOA) will be performing in two full scale productions of West End sensations; ‘Spend Spend Spend’ and ‘Just So’.

‘Spend Spend Spend’, which will run from 2nd to 4th May, is a rags-to-riches-to-rags again story which focuses on the glitz and glamour, and potential pitfalls, of fame and fortune. Contrastingly, ‘Just So’, running from 23rd to 25th May, is based on the works of Rudyard Kipling and explores a world of fantasy and adventure.

Students studying Production at the academy will also be taking on an active role, managing lighting design, sound, costume and make-up and staging.

Gaynor Cheshire, Principal at BOA, said: “We have an excellent partnership with The Old Rep Theatre and I’m very pleased that we are able to build upon last year’s successes with two full-scale performances which will showcase the talents of not only our musical theatre students, but also those working behind the scenes.

“The shows will give the students an excellent idea as to what to expect from a professional production and will act as preparation for the industries they are aiming to become involved with in the future. We hope to see the seats of the theatre filled with friendly faces.”

Both productions are open to the public and tickets are available through The Old Rep Theatre box office; priced at £10 for adults and £8 for concessions.

The Birmingham Ormiston Academy is partnered with London’s prestigious BRIT School and is open to students aged 14-18 who are looking to pursue careers in performing, digital and creative industries.

The independent, state-funded academy is sponsored by Ormiston Trust and Birmingham City University, and is partnered with Maverick TV and London’s famous BRIT School.
