Students from the University’s Media Production course have partnered with organisers of the Future Shorts festival to host a unique screening of its autumn 2012 award-winning film selection tomorrow (Tuesday 27th November).

Future Shorts – the biggest film festival of its kind – showcases the most exciting and innovative short films from around the world, connecting global stories with global audiences.

In the last year, festival screenings have taken place in over 540 cities and 178 countries, with an audience of 75,000 people experiencing a showcase of the very best in short film.

The film festival – which takes place between 7pm and 9.30pm in the University’s state of the art student centre, the Hub – has been organised in collaboration with Future Shorts by second year media production students and filmmakers Dan Hooper, Tom Longstaff and Luke Collins.

The trio also manage the recently-launched Coventry University Short Film Society, and are looking forward to offering fellow cineasts the chance to see the Future Shorts films on Tuesday.

Dan Hooper, student and co-ordinator for the festival’s Coventry event, said: “The experience we’ve gained through working with an organisation like Future Shorts and promoting this event has been excellent, and is something that we’re really keen to build on in the future. We would just like to encourage people to come along, watch some cool films and have a drink –it’s going to be fantastic.”

Films on show include A Brief History of John Baldessari (from the directors of CATFISH); the BAFTA Scotland nominated Rite; winner of the Sundance Institute’s short filmmaking award, The Black Balloon; and Tribeca Film Festival award-winner Café Regular, Cairo.

The event is open to the public and entry is £1 per person.
