Bellowhead

Wednesday sees another modern British folk band, Bellowhead, at the Assembly. This 11-piece collective have won Best Band in the Radio 2 Folk Awards an unprecedented five times, released the highly-acclaimed album Hedonism last year and continue to do everything from sell out the Albert Hall to record a new version of the Archers theme. Tickets £17.50.

Thursday sees the arrival of one of the world’s top female blues singers in the shape of Beth Hart, whose new album with Joe Bonamassa, Don’t Explain, is riding high in the Billboard charts. She’s also worked with, amongst others, Deep Purple and Slash. Tickets £13.

Two doyens of the British r’n’b scene are in town on Friday. Dr Feelgood are now in their fifth decade of storming live performances while Nine Below Zero have been going almost as long, and for most of that time they’ve been one of the hardest-gigging bands in the country. Tickets £16.50.

There’s a couple of tribute bands on Saturday – the AC/DC tribute Livewire plus ZZ Tops. Tickets £17.50.

There’s a rare chance to see highly-rated prog band Arena on Sunday. Featuring former Marillion drummer Mick Pointer and ex-Pendragon keyboard player Clive Nolan, this is the only UK gig this year for a band whose new album The Seventh Degree of Seperation is due out next week. Tickets £15.
