Vladimir Ashkenazy

Vladimir Ashkenazy, Nicola Benedetti and Julian Lloyd Webber will be taking part in what promises to be a diverse range of repertoire – from Bach to Glass – sometimes in the same night.

The season kicks off with the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra on 1st October. Conductor Yuri Botnari leads and violin soloist Nikita Boriso-Glebsky will be performing Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto No.1 and Mussorgsky’s ever popular Pictures at an Exhibition.

Later that month, the nation’s best-loved violinist, Nicola Benedetti, joins the Czech National Symphony Orchestra for a concert of Mozart, Vaughn Williams and Dvořák with Libor Pesek KBE conducting the music he knows best.

The ever-popular Violin Concerto No 1 is safe in the hands of the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra on 24th  November with Antoni Wit conducting and young Polish violinist Kuba Jakowicz delivering one of classical music’s most entertaining half-hours.

Into the festive season, the Philharmonia Orchestra return to the venue for a concert led by Vladimir Ashkenazy on 7th December. Berlioz’ Symphonie Fantastique will be the highlight  and the Philharmonia also play on 4th May 2012 under the direction of Swiss conductor Philippe Jordan.

The London Symphony Orchestra usher in the new year in style led by the hugely popular Music Director of the Royal Opera House Antonio Pappano. Their performance on  9th January 2012 will showcase Walton’s brooding Viola Concerto alongside the fabulously sleazy Dances from Thomas Ades’ breakthrough opera Powder Her Face.

Highlights of the 2012 programme include the virtuoso English Chamber Orchestra presenting a concert of Philip Glass and Bach, Julian Lloyd Webber with the European Union Chamber Orchestra and the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra with the brilliant Andris Nelsons at the helm.
