The city’s most sustainable and environmentally-aware dining establishments were yesterday recognised for their efforts at the second annual Birmingham Green Restaurant Awards.

Organised by the Birmingham Environmental Partnership and sponsored by Veolia and Birmingham City Council, the awards saw prizes presented in four categories, along with an overall winner.

The Warehouse Cafe landed the top honour of winning the Green Restaurant of the Year award during a ceremony at the Council House, following in the footsteps of Moor Hall Hotel, overall winner when the awards were first presented in 2010.

Cllr Timothy Huxtable, chair of the Birmingham Environmental Partnership, said: “The winners of this year’s awards are amongst the very best when it comes to setting standards for sustainability in a city renowned for its range of diverse restaurants. They should act as an inspiration for others to follow because the catering industry can make a real difference as we strive to make Birmingham as green as possible.”
