What’s On at the Robin

Simon McBride

Simon McBride

It’s a busy week for the Robin, starting on Tuesday with Irish blues rock guitarist Simon McBride. Such a background is bound to throw up comparisons with Rory Gallagher and Gary Moore but Simon is an accomplished talent who has played with such greats as Joe Bonamassa and Jeff Beck as well as recording several highly-acclaimed albums.  Tickets £12.50

Wednesday sees the Alarm on stage. Frontman Mike Peters has played here before, but this is the first visit to Bilston for a band whose haircuts were never as good as their evangelistic, Clash-meets-Dylan music and attitude. This could be one of the most memorable nights the Robin has seen for a long while.  Tickets £14

Steve Gibbons

Thursday and there’s not a lot you can say about Steve Gibbons that hasn’t been said a thousand times before. The days of chart success may be behind him, but a great show is still guaranteed from the region’s ultimate rock’n’roll hero. Never mind Ozzy, this is a man who deserves a star on Broad Street. Tickets £10

On Friday another Robin regular returns; in the shape of Dr Feelgood. Again, there’s not much that can be said about the high octane r’n’b this band provide every night. You could argue – again – that a band with no original members is a band in name only, but you know what you’ll be getting.Tickets £12.50

On Sunday there’s another free acoustic session in Woody’s bar during at lunchtime while the evening sees prog rock virtuosi the Tangent performing what will probably be the only “20 minute miniature symphonies” the Robin will witness all week. Tickets £10.
